Bichon Frise puppy training can be a little difficult if you do not take housebreaking seriously or on a consistent basis. You will need to let your puppy know where you want him to relieve himself in your yard.

  • First, use common sense. Let your Bichon puppy go outside frequently, as much as possible. Puppies have a natural desire to eliminate themselves when they go outdoors. They don't like to soil their living spaces, and they love to mark their territories.

After your puppy eats or drinks, wait about 10 to 15 minutes and then take him outside. You will find out this is how quickly food and water is passed through his system. This is especially true for younger puppies.

  • Second, buy a dog carrier for your puppy and line it with newspaper. Place your Bichon Frise puppy in his carrier several times a day for short periods of time until he becomes used to being in it.

Eventually your puppy will learn to love his carrier and will consider it a little home within his big home (your house).

Dogs have a natural instinct not to eliminate in their carriers, so use this to your advantage. Naturally, puppies at first, until they become familiar with their carriers, will pee and poop in them. That's why you use the newspapers for easy cleanup.

  • Third, always take your Bichon puppy outside first thing in the morning, after he exercises and plays, and before bedtime.

If you do see him starting to go in the house, immediately get his attention by saying "No!" firmly. Pick him up and take him outside to finish his job. When he "goes outside", make sure you give him lots of praise and reward him with a dog treat.

If you follow these easy Bichon Frise puppy training tips, sooner rather than later, you will have a housebroken puppy--which means a cleaner, more sanitized and less stressful home for you and your family.
