Deppen, two well-known dog breeders and American Kennel Club judges. The two breeders ran a kennel in Lynn Township, near Allentown, Pennsylvania. Photos were shown in court of 18 Bichon Frises who had heavily matted coats (a combination of tangled hair, dirt, feces and urine). Dr. Alysia Deaven of Jonestown, PA testified that it would have taken at least a year to get that way. She also stated that, of the thousands of dogs that she has seen, these were the worst matted dogs ever. Stories like this should be a reminder to us that, if you are looking for a new puppy, you need to personally check out the breeders you are considering. Who would have suspected that judges for the American Kennel Club would be neglecting their own dogs?
